Volunteering at Respawn

Are you a strong, able bodied person?
Do you love smelling fresh, juicy meats on a BBQ?
Have you ever considered yourself as a professional cable-plugger-innerer?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then have we got the job for you!

We're always after all sorts of people, including but not limited to:

  • Food handlers/BBQ cookers
  • Competition organisers
  • Heavy lifters (tables, cables, etc)
  • Marketing and social media experts (really, we'd really love one or two of your kind around here!)
  • Team leaders
  • Graphic designers (Tshirt and tag design, mostly)
  • Web designer

Get involved in the community!

A few cool helpers doing their thing at the check in desk
Fig 2: Some happy helpers!

We here at Respawn are a lovely community of caring and understanding people. We care about being a great event for everyone involved, and understand that we need happy helpers in order to achieve this. Over the years, Respawn has built itself on top of committed individuals who have selflessly given their time to help make Respawn what it is today - Something Awesome.

While volunteering at Respawn, we don't expect you to waste your entire event doing menial work - we are a fan of small work loads. Some roles are during setup and packup only, others are for an hour or two during the event - you're here to LAN!

We take all of "Respawn Friday" to set up the venue. We start at around 9AM when the van arrives at the storage location, gets loaded up and drives to the venue. While it's driving, the team starts arranging tables. From there, power and network cables are rolled out across the entire venue. Networking infrastructure is set up, servers are brought up and the player tags are cut.

Once all of the work on a Friday night is done, we kick back, relax and get a good night of sleep before the hordes of gamers barge through the door at 10AM - but we don't stop until the work is done, and without you, that could be (and has been in the past!) 3AM!

So, what, do I just rock up on the Friday?

We'd very much rather you got in contact with us first and let us know who you are, what you're willing to do and what experience you have.

Sounds great! How do I apply?

Drop a message to anyone on the staff page! (http://respawn.com.au/?page=staff ) - it doesn't matter who, it's a group inbox ;)

manpower it takes to distribute 100 pizzas?

What's in it for me?

Be a part of the community that makes the event what it is, get a great volunteer activity for your resume and learn a few cool skills while you're at it! We can't offer any pay packets - no one at the event gets a single dollar in their own pockets, and that's the way it's going to stay.

And of course, get early entry to the LAN! Once setup is completed on Friday evening, you're free to do as you please. Set up your PC, play a few games or talk about the weather with the rest of the crew. Your choice!
