Windows 7 has started to play up, whenever i restart my computer i cannot use my USB keyboard and mouse and my network cards dont work

i have had to use a ps/2 keyboard and mouse..

i went into device manager and i saw that all my usb ports failed to start and that my network cards also failed to start... to fix this i had to click uninstall and then rescan for hardware changes... after that it worked almost instantly.

I want to know why it is doing this and how i can fix it...

I dont want to have to take two keyboards and two mice to respawn so any help is aprriciated:

P.S I dont realy want to reinstall os but if i have to i will - Last LAST FINAL Resort

Could be your motherboard. I don't know if the internal battery could cause stuff like this, but someone here might. Have you changed or upgraded you motherboard drivers recently?

If yes, try to roll the back to an earlier version that worked.
If no, upgrade and see if that helps.

Id say it would be some form of driver corruption, maybe a southbridge overheating, or motherboard failure.

Check your temperatures and update your chipset drivers.
oohms
Try downloading the latest chipset drivers for it.. and play around with the legacy USB support options in the bios

double click on one of the devices with a yellow mark,

it should give you a device status and error code
jutzy
status code is 10
and it says the device failed to start.
dead_man
OK looks like some corrupted windows files

open a command prompt as administrator and run the following

CODE
/sfc scannow

ok windows seems fairly pooched, time for a format me thinks smile.gif

sifnt do that, means you will miss respawn tongue.gif
jutzy
hm i dont want to miss respawn... however it is my windows because i just installed ubuntu and the keyboard and mouse have no issues... thanks for the suggestion deadman. great... i hate reinstalls means i have to do backups and stuff... i wonder if i can do a windows boot restore or somthing.

any last options before i choose the ultimate painful goal.

Slight edit: Rebooted into windows and keyboard/mouse/drivers working fine? wtf? needed a secondary os to give it a kick in the butt?

Kinda thought virus as soon as you said something was taking control of your mouse smile.gif

Also XP fully supports USB keyboards, It just has to detect them like any other USB HID and that takes time. You DO NOT need to have a PS2 keyboard to install XP.

Hell I'm pretty damn certain every OS from 98SE to 7 has supported USB keyboards off the bat.

Giarus, that may be due to having USB keyboard support disabled in the bios.
Enable that and ANYTHING should be able to use your USB keyboard.

I have installed and maintained XP machines since it was released in 2001, and i have used MANY a USB keyboard to install/configure them.

This doesn't have to be the OS's fault though. You could have a bad MB, BIOS, drivers, keyboard, cables, connectors or ports.

And since lots of people have had no problem with USB keyboards and XP, it's more likely that it's not the OS.
