Respawn LAN v8.5
September 27-28th
The Odeon, La Trobe University Bundoora

With more win and gold than the Chinese Olympic team comes the next installment of Melbourne's most popular LAN gaming event, Respawn. We're scaling back for the Grand Final weekend to bring you a 170 player exclusive event. (that said, if we see a large amount of registrations early on, we might see if we can move to the bigger venue if it's available).

Competitions will include:
* Warcraft III 1v1
* Warcraft III DOTA
* QuakeWorld Deathmatch (DM6)
* Flatout 2
* Worms World Party
* CS Source 5v5
* CS Source GunGame

And other servers will include Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Quake 3 arena and more! Since we're running on the Grand Final weekend, we'll aim to have the game on the projector for those who love their aussie rules.

Tiny, the main reason i remove stunts from the flatout 2 competition is the time requirements, and the issues when some retard decides he/she cant be bothered playing but keeps his/her PC connected. Its too hard to run a competition with 40+ players that way

As usual i will put out a request thread before the event, if there is a huge request for stunts, i may run it as a seperate comp.

hay hay i didnt mean to be rude just saying is all it ok the think we did stunts is just pick like ski jump it only 2 times u have to go so it didnt take that long

stunts like that not bowling or anythink like that just think about it

If you have lots of smaller groups for the qualifiers then it makes it a lot easier, i.e. groups of 4 per server (or host) then top player goes thru.
That way you can run 10 simultaneous quals, hence less time taken up.
And seeing that its an overnight event, time is a bit more of a luxury

rego's at 173 now, so im guessing that the lan will need at least a 250 rego to bump up to union hall again, and 170 for the odeon looks like the max.

if theyre is demand we MAY be able to get the bigger hall, atm just register and see how it goes

upgrade to 9.0 and make it a 400 man lan imo

yes it is a victorian thing, however theyre is also another LAN the same weekend which a few ppl are going to

last year i was seriously considering to miss a respawn coz they held it on the bathurst 1000

whats space like in the odeon? Pics i have seen look very crampt. anyone got better pics, or a floorplan of how the lan is laid out?

Im not a huge fan of crampage. Since regos are up past 180 now, im hoping you guys can push for the bigger hall.

Is there a VIP table at the odeon events?

As it's already being stated, there needs to be alot of regos (250 aprox) for the union hall to be used as otherwise you end up with a big empty unused hall.

Theres always a vip table of sorts, if not i'm sure zardoz will take care of you neon

Do i need to talk to zardoz in regards to offering to help set up friday night, or is there enough hands on deck for that this time round. I'd like to put a bit back into the respawn community, as I enjoy the events, and want to do my bit to keep them running.

there is cable to be laid out. tables to be moved etc etc etc.

I hope to grab some guys/gals and make them sub bosses or somthing. So please come and just approach me and ask "what needs to be done" if you want to find out.

Also. Vip table is where ever I'm at Usually next to ADMIN r4n. or MR AT as I like to call him. so yeh. another way to anwser the question is. I'm getting work mates to come on friday so I can get extra hands etc. if 200 people turn up then 200 people can lay cable

Im involved in a smallscale documentary on the advent of torrent technology and its effects in Australia - Zardoz, r4n, other admins; would it be possible to drag along a camera to 9.0, to get some stock footage of the lan? Would omit references to respawn etc.

Could possibly film some tourneys/interviews/general crowd stuff afterwards if anyone wants me to, like the time lapse shot 8.0 had.

harkonnen only problem is to film you gotta get people to sign a release of some sort i assume?

I dunno how many people would want you filming them while " network stress" testing ..
