My mumma is going to buy me some ram for christmas.
I have an oldish imac which has some crappy bus speeds, and only 1 Gb ram.

Anyway I'm looking for a 4GB (2x2GB) upgrade, my mum was going to pay the stupid apple people $300 to install it and 'surprise' me for christmas!
But thankfully, she didn't get the chance to do it before christmas. I cracked it when mum gave me a homemade voucher for christmas

I was like MUM! mad.gif HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY FOR THIS!
I can buy it and pop it in like a SD card for under $100!

Then she was all like, oh the warranty! You'll break it!

Whilst maintaining my cool around the family, I ran over to my computer, used my brand new screwdriver and pulled out the current ram.
So know even if pulling out the ram voids the warranty ( ohmy.gif ) it is already being done.

SO NOW I NEED TO BUY SOME RAM OFF EBAY!
240 Pins, 667MHz, DDR2, SDRAM, 2x2GB

Most of the ram I've looked at has been $90-$160
But all the ones here look incredibly dodgy and only $40-$80

Could someone please explain why these are so cheap?

And tell me which one to buy!

Thanks for the help

dont imacs use so-dimm ram? just buy some of that from a computer store. Yeah, apple tax is silly, but if your not paying for it - WHO CARES! bwt, i would check your specs too, older imacs might not support 4 gig.

Haahaa... Damn.
Thanks Neon, I was right about to go ahead and pay for a 240 pin set, which I had figured would do

When I say old imac, i mean, originally released late 2007, but they update every 6 months, so that's just me feeling anger towards my damn stupid retarded monkey friend who copies everything I buy. He managed to get mine, with a slightly faster ram for about $500 cheaper only 3 months later...

I should probably put specs in my signature.

Thanks for saving my ass. Mum would have cracked it tongue.gif

Don't bother with eBay. MSY have various brands of 2GB DDR2 SO-DIMMs for $41... I recently fitted my iMac (same model as yours, the first alum ones) with a couple 2GB DDR2-800 Kingston sticks, works a treat.

Also, removing your RAM does not void the warranty. smile.gif Just make sure you keep the original sticks as they may refuse warranty service if you don't have them in.

My warranty runs out very soon... URRGGGHHH I need to buy it already!

Thanks for helping me out, and stopping me from buying the wrong ones tongue.gif

Because we are reeeaaalllyy low on money. And somehow, it would have eventually affected me, I've been working 5 days a week on crap pay these holidays, and 80% of it has gone on 'our' car. Either petrol or roadworthiness.
