LANs make up a very miniscule portion of their customer base.

But lan's aren't a customer base... people are. designers typically don't make games specifically for wan. they just make a game. usually focused on single player, with multiplayer a close 2nd. - thats why CS was such a success and still is. HL had been out for years yet a little rogue mod dedicated 2 multiplayer called counter-strike far exceeded the popularity of HL. Had valve realized this from the get go they would of banked alot more money.

- the broad shouldered, 50% share holders know this..

Its all about infinity ward maximizing profit nothing more;

And lets face it... after world @ war. they would be pretty keen to recoup some of their losses lol

You misunderstand me.

People who go to LANs make up a miniscule portion of their customer base.

Any game that will work over the internet can easily be made to work over LANs by the developer. It's a business choice not to do it. LAN support generally means higher piracy rates.

YErr..... so as I said; the decision not to have lan support is to maximize profit. nothing more.

They not doing it for our benefit squid, the gamers.. but for the benefit of their profit margins. - theres no misunderstanding we just in complete agreement lol.

As for development frookie, ur right... I meant to say activision..

u really do have to think past who's names on the box nowdays and see who actually owns the rights to the game;

"In 2006, Activision gave Treyarch, an internal studio, the responsibility to develop CoD3 as part of a strategy to maximize its returns on the series. The relationship with both studios meant a CoD game could be released every year."

http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/178868...veloper-rights/

It maybe developed by Infinity or sum1 else, but at the end of the day it all falls under the Activision/blizzard's mammoth umbrella;

http://www.activisionblizzard.com/corp/index.html

A company who owns a VERY dominant percentage of the market. and growing.

Which means less competition between developers, which means poor quality games such as w@w for u and I. - And with little competition the whole industry stagnates. It's the same reason why good aussie developers, and developers around the world for that matter can't compete.

It doesnt matter how u spin it... the fundamental is this; everything Activision does it does purely to "maximize its returns" and they certainly didnt have u and I in mind when they made mw2. The developers most certainly would have. But nothing gets done without the man with large bags of cash. it's just that simple, and a far cry from the days where the game was about the gamer.. rather then simply the profit margin of whoever made it.

Dont get me wrong.. I love cod4 and to a lesser extent mw2.. both great games in their own right. But im certainly not ignorant to what the powers that be are up to.

Call of Duty MW2 did $550 million worldwide in its first five days on sale. and it cost activision/blizzard an estimated $40 million to produce.

- do the math lol

"Gran Turismo 5 has cost $60 million so far, but that game's been in development for five years... not the two it took to get MW2 out the door.

So, yes, if you were wondering how Activision got so much detail - Fiddy and Keith David into the game, that's how they did it. By throwing money at it." - [LA Times]

yet we still donate $100 of our hard earned money for a piece of plastic and cd key while the fat cats at actlizzard bank 10's of millions of dollars for themselves every month of the year.

And they still wonder why piracy exists lol. Ofcorse to them, $100 is a meal at maccas... god bless their cotton socks.

Hi, just wondering if there is a cut off date to when someone can create an account then register for this event, then confirm?
Patryn
cut off date would be just before the actual event or something.

but more importantly, you'd have to be one of the top 500 people in the list to get a spot on saturday morning...
little chance of that now, but if there's spots free after 2pm or something, i think they let anyone in on a first come first serve basis.
david.m
So there is 700+ people registered for the event and 500+ confirmed with just 500 places available?????
Violator
Im pretty sure i confirmed before all 500 spots had been taken.. Can an admin confirm/deny for me?
Tank
Hey guys, theres more info on this issue in the reserving seats Q & A thread in general discussion.

Basically the list is currently organised by when you registered. When we do the 'bump' The list then drops all the people who have not confirmed. The list is still sorted by when you registered, except after the bump, people who confirm get added to the bottom.

people can 'confirm', and still be on the waiting list. When we do check-ins, if you are on the waiting list, we will NOT let you in confirmed or not. If you are not in the top 500, the only way you will get a seat is if you check the website (we have a live counter), or give us a call (we will advertise this number closer to the event), to see if there are empty seats, at 2PM. at 2pm we open the doors and it becomes a situation of 'first come, first serve.'

I hope this makes sense smile.gif if you have any further questions, feel free to send me a PM.

Waiting: 49 Violator confirmed

You are currently on the waiting list. I can only tell you to wait for the confirmation bump (explained above) before i can confirm that you will be in the top 500.

Thanks

confirming while being in the waiting list means you are still on the waiting list, wait for the player bump as Tank explained and see how you go.

GIARUS
I hope this respawn will be an awsome one.
it would be awsome if we had another random clapping for falling cans
priorax
I was near that last time, most of the people near me just turned around, thought "what the hell, why not", started clapping, still confused as to what actually happened.

Ok Let me fill you in considering i started the random clap

My group was in the side part of the hall where someone at the end of the table was building a tower of cans ontop of there pc for the custom pc box challenge.
sadly the can's fell as i say this an idea poped into my head i got up from my seat and started clapping random and started cheering after this my group joined in after this the whole side part of respawn joined in after this the whole of respawn was appalausing and whisling for clapping cans a player in are group nucleus was amazed that i got the whole of respawn top clap for falling cans the randomness of this was the reason it was so funny i got the whole of respawn to do it 3 times which was not bad
but the first was the best one.

one spots opening up as im without a PC currently (thats worth taking to a lan). my main PC had its graphics card overheat and die, with the replacement taking forever to arrive, now my backup PC has contracted a virus that killed it too (and cant format due to certain circumstances). never let computer illiterate family members use your PC sleep.gif

so my spots up for lucky registered player number 501!
